Our role

Rent ATV Santa Teresa acts as a booking service connecting visitors with independent, locally owned and operated ATV rental vendors ("Partner Vendors") in and around Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. When you book through us, your rental agreement for the vehicle itself is with the Partner Vendor who supplies it — not with Rent ATV Santa Teresa directly. We coordinate the booking, delivery, pricing and communication on your behalf, and our Partner Vendors are responsible for the condition, maintenance and roadworthiness of their own vehicles.

Eligibility

To rent an ATV you must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver's licence from your home country — a standard car licence is enough. Bring the physical card; a photo on your phone is not accepted.

Bookings & payment

Bookings are made by messaging us on WhatsApp with your dates, number of riders and where you are staying. Nothing is charged when you reserve. Payment — in cash (Costa Rican colones or US dollars) or by card — is due at pickup. Rates are listed on our pricing page and drop the longer you rent.

Security deposit

A security deposit starting from $500, held on card or in cash, is required at pickup and refunded on return, less the cost of any damage beyond normal wear. The exact amount depends on the quad you rent.

Delivery & collection

We deliver free of charge within Santa Teresa, Mal País, Playa Carmen and Playa Hermosa. Delivery to Cóbano or Cabuya carries an extra fee. Message us your accommodation and we will confirm timing and any applicable fee.

Assumption of risk

Riding an ATV is an inherently hazardous activity, made more so by Santa Teresa's unpaved, uneven and sometimes muddy roads. By renting, you acknowledge this risk and agree that you ride at your own risk. Neither Rent ATV Santa Teresa nor the Partner Vendor supplying your vehicle can guarantee your safety, and both disclaim liability for injury, death or property damage to the fullest extent permitted under Costa Rican law, except where caused by the Partner Vendor's own gross negligence.

Rider responsibilities

• Wear the helmet provided at all times while riding.
• Hold a valid licence and carry it with you.
• Obey Costa Rican traffic law and posted signage.
• Never ride on protected beach sections or through nesting areas.
• Avoid riding after dark — the coast road is partially unpaved and unlit, and animals are more active and harder to see.
• Do not operate the ATV under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Carry no more than one passenger, and only on a two-seater model.
• Do not lend the ATV to anyone not named on the rental agreement.
• You are personally responsible for any traffic fines or penalties incurred during your rental.

Vehicle condition

Each ATV is provided by the Partner Vendor who owns it, and that vendor is responsible for its mechanical condition, servicing and roadworthiness. If you believe a vehicle is unsafe at pickup, tell us immediately and do not ride it — we will arrange a replacement or a refund of amounts not yet used.

Insurance & damage

Basic liability coverage is included with every rental, arranged through the Partner Vendor; ask us about its limits before you sign. Optional damage cover is available for a daily fee and reduces what you are liable for if the ATV is returned damaged. Where damage cover is not taken, you are responsible for the cost of repairs, up to the value of your security deposit and beyond it if repair costs exceed that amount.

Cancellations

Plans change — message us as soon as you know and we will do what we can to move your booking to a new date. Cancellation and refund terms are confirmed with you directly on WhatsApp at the time of booking.

Prohibited use

• No racing, stunt riding, or off-roading outside marked trails and roads.
• No modifying the vehicle.
• No use for any illegal purpose.
• No removing or disabling safety equipment.

Indemnification

You agree to be responsible for, and to reimburse Rent ATV Santa Teresa and the relevant Partner Vendor for, any loss, fine or claim arising from your own negligent, reckless or unlawful use of the ATV, to the extent permitted by Costa Rican law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rent ATV Santa Teresa's role is limited to coordinating your booking. Any claim relating to the ATV itself — its mechanical condition, an accident, or an injury arising from its use — should be directed to the Partner Vendor who supplied the vehicle and, where applicable, their insurance. Rent ATV Santa Teresa is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your rental.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Puntarenas province.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time; the date at the top shows the last revision. Continuing to book with us after a change means you accept the updated terms.
